about the artist
Balpınar worked as the curator of the Carpet Section of the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art and Founding Director of the Vakıflar Carpet and Kilim Museum, Istanbul. She is a researcher and the author of several books and articles on kilims and carpets. Since 1986 she started the art form called “artkilim”. She is inspired by the various spatial planes in the universe and micro cosmos. While most of her one-of-a-kind pieces are woven for exhibitions, Balpınar also undertakes site-specific and corporate special commissions.
